　　本剧讲述了失去丈夫的苏小艾和“被冤枉”薛礼强之间的哀怨情仇。通过故事的情节展开，苏小艾明白了薛礼强并非害丈夫的对象，而对薛礼强不断的“补偿”感到内疚而爱上对方，但是却遭受薛孩子的反对。最终苏小艾通过自己的爱心感动了孩子，赢得了迟到的一声“妈妈”。而薛礼强的妹妹却利用自己的美貌占有了富豪的家庭，最终却乐极生悲，失去一切。

　　该剧改编自作家罗伯特·麦卡蒙的小说《毒刺》，故事围绕乔治亚州农村的一群人展开，他们必须放下分歧才能在神秘的威胁中生存下来。
