　　早在三千六百多年前，曾经居住在中原地区的火神祝融之后遭到商王朝的驱逐，于是举族南迁，历经千辛万苦，总算在南方潮湿腥热的蛮夷地带落下脚跟。他们给自己命名为“楚人”，虽然身在边陲，却始终怀有重返中原的念头。楚人首领鬻熊协助周王朝推翻商纣的统治，然而并未得到应有的尊重和分封，周昭王的南巡更令他们对天子的期望彻底破灭。以熊渠、熊通、楚庄王等有为帝王为代表，楚人开始尝试向中原扩张。侵随战争、齐桓公来伐、城濮之战、吴楚之战。数百年的残酷战争锻炼着楚人铁一般的意志，八百年的基业逐渐走向繁荣，也走向了衰落和灭亡。
