赵成（张甲田 饰）受父亲“右派”问题影响，在文革中被打成“黑五类”，并遭红卫兵曾晓蓓（相虹 饰）、李聪（陈启国 饰）等人殴打，后来性格变得忧郁孤癖的赵成远赴农村插队。不久后，由于父亲被打倒，晓蓓也作为“走资派”的女儿下放到赵成插队的知青点。赵成因保护企图污辱晓蓓的坏人，被栽赃为“企图污辱女知青的流氓”四处游斗，关健时刻晓蓓以未婚妻身份站出来保护赵成。几年后，率先返城的晓蓓不顾阻力与赵成结婚。文革结束后，赵成报名参加高考，却因父亲的历史问题未被入取，晓蓓对他的感情随之发生了动摇，但赵成不相信命运的安排......
